Elizabeth Boyd, PhD named Director, UC BRAID

September 13, 2022

Dear Colleagues,

It is my pleasure to announce that after a competitive search, Elizabeth Boyd, PhD has been appointed Director of University of California Biomedical Research Acceleration Integration & Development (UC BRAID), effective September 19, 2022. UC BRAID is a consortium of University of California campuses - Davis, Irvine, Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco - which receive funding from NCATS at the NIH.

Dr. Boyd has supported UC BRAID as Strategic Development Advisor since 2021; in that role she guided the implementation of UC BRAID’s strategic plan for the 2022-23 fiscal year.

UC BRAID’s core mission is to support and facilitate multi-site clinical and translational research through the development of innovative processes, tools, and connections. Dr. Boyd will report to UCSF’s Office of the AVC-CR/CTSI Administrative Director Christine Razler and will work closely with UCSF’s Associate Vice Chancellor for Clinical Research (AVC-CR) who serves as UC BRAID Executive Committee Chair. She will also collaborate with the CTSA Principal Investigators and Chief Administrative Officers from the other four UC campuses and will focus on projects that help reduce administrative and other barriers to clinical and translational research. “I am passionate about UC BRAID and committed to leading the program through the implementation of its new strategic plan and beyond.” – Dr. Elizabeth Boyd

Having held several executive leadership positions both within the UC system and at the Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center, including previously serving as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Ethics and Compliance at UCSF and the Executive Director for research compliance across the UC system while at the UC Office of the President, Dr. Boyd brings extensive experience to her new role in building and improving research operational processes and creating ways for faculty to better and more efficiently achieve their research goals. At Fred Hutch, she served as Vice President for Research Administration and Faculty Affairs.

Dr. Boyd earned a PhD in Medical Sociology from UCLA, an MA in Communication from Stanford University, and a BA in Psychology from UC Berkeley. She was a post-doctoral Fellow at the Institute for Health Policy Studies at UCSF and was adjunct assistant and associate professor in the departments of Clinical Pharmacy, School of Pharmacy and Social and Behavioral Sciences, School of Nursing.

Sincerely,
